The building was designed to be 60 percent more energy-efficient than the national average fire station. Interesting design features include double-deep drive-through bays, a community room, an exam room, a weight room, a shaded courtyard, an office and a study room. The laundry room has been reinforced per FEMA standards to act as a tornado shelter for staff.
